Choosing the correct wig size is one of the most important steps in finding a comfortable, natural-looking wig. Wig sizes can vary between brands, so an Average cap in one brand may not fit exactly the same as an Average cap in another. Use our guide below to help you choose the best fit.

How to Measure Your Head for a Wig

Before measuring, flatten your natural hair as much as possible. Using a soft tape measure, place the end at the centre of your natural hairline and measure around your head, passing just above your ears and around the fullest part of the back of your head before returning to the front. The tape should sit comfortably against your head without being tight. Avoid pulling the tape measure, as this can stretch it and result in an inaccurate measurement. For the most accurate fit, always measure in centimetres.

1. Head Circumference

Start at the centre of your natural hairline and wrap the tape measure around your head, passing just above your ears and around the nape before returning to the starting point. This measurement determines your wig cap size.

2. Front to Nape

Measure from the centre of your natural hairline, over the crown of your head, to the nape of your neck. This measurement helps ensure the wig sits correctly from front to back.

3. Ear to Ear

Measure from the top of one ear, over the crown of your head, to the top of the other ear. This helps determine how well the wig will fit across the top of your head.

The front of the wig should settle into your natural hairline, four fingers above your eyebrows and it should come down to natural hairline at the back (nape).

Brand-Specific Wig Sizing

Please remember that wig cap sizes are not standardised across all manufacturers. The following guide highlights general differences between popular wig brands. Individual styles may vary depending on cap construction.

Rene of Paris, Noriko & Amore

Many Rene of Paris styles have adjustable tabs and some stretch, making Average suitable for a wider range of customers.

Ellen Wille

Ellen Wille tends to fit slightly snugger compared with some European brands. Customers measuring at the upper end of Average may prefer styles with adjustable tabs or more flexible cap designs.

Gisela Mayer

Gisela Mayer caps generally offer a slightly more generous fit than some European brands. A customer measuring around 57cm may often find an Average cap comfortable, depending on the style.

Jon Renau

Jon Renau caps are generally consistent with standard sizing, with Average fitting most customers.

Raquel Welch

Raquel Welch Average is generally true to size, although some lace front and monofilament styles may feel slightly less flexible.

Belle Tress

Belle Tress caps can feel slightly more fitted due to their cap design. Customers at the upper end of Average should check the individual style details.

Estetica

Some Estetica styles have more stretch due to cap construction.

What If You Are Between Sizes?

• If you are between sizes, consider whether you prefer a snug or relaxed fit.
• Adjustable straps can help fine-tune the fit but will not significantly change the cap size.
• If you have thicker natural hair underneath, you may prefer the larger size.
• Hand-tied and lace front wigs can feel different from traditional wefted caps.

Yes, we accept returns within 14 days of delivery, provided the wig is in new condition with tags and labels intact. 

Please note that the following products cannot be returned:

• Items sealed for hygiene reasons (e.g. eyebrows, eyelashes)
• Accessories (e.g. shampoo, conditioner)
• Clearance products

Please carefully read the terms and conditions of our Returns Policy – this can also be found within the Shopping Info section at the foot of every webpage. We would ask you not to return any item without first requesting a Returns Authorisation Number: this can be requested via your online account.

We offer a returns period of 14 days from the date of delivery, where you may return your part or all of your order (conditions apply). Our Returns Policy is not meant as a preview service, and we reserve the right not to supply to customers who repeatedly return orders.

Return postage costs are your responsibility and are not refundable unless the product is clearly faulty.

Exchanges

You can exchange your wig for an alternative: you will simply have to pay the return postage when sending the original wig back to us.

Refund or store credit

You can return your wig for a full refund or a store credit (at your choice): you will simply have to pay the return postage when sending the original wig back to us.

Once we receive your return, refunds will normally be processed within 14 days. Any refund amount will be credited to the same payment card or process used for the original purchase. Store credits will be applied to your account within the same time period.

For orders being returned from outside the UK

• For customers outside the UK, any import fees incurred by Valentine Wigs will be deducted from your original payment. We would therefore urge international customers to be completely confident with their style and colour before making a purchase.
• We can only refund the cost of economy outbound postage from your original order. Any standard, expedited, or express shipping upgrades selected at checkout are non-refundable. This applies to the original delivery charge only. We recommend selecting economy postage if there is any possibility that an item may need to be returned.
