Alopecia Awareness Month 2026: Raise and Shine

Every September, Alopecia UK turns the spotlight on a condition that's often misunderstood: alopecia. This year's campaign, Raise and Shine, has two simple goals — raise funds so Alopecia UK can keep providing support, community and education, and shine a light on what life with alopecia actually feels like.

As a proud supplier of wigs and hairpieces to people navigating hair loss, we see every day how much more this is about than hair. It's about identity, confidence, and being seen. So, this month, we're celebrating our customers, backing Alopecia UK's work, and doing our bit to get the conversation started.

Why Alopecia Awareness Month matters

Alopecia isn't rare, and it isn't one thing. It's an umbrella term covering several conditions — from alopecia areata, which causes sudden patchy hair loss, to alopecia totalis and universalis, which can mean losing all the hair on the scalp or body. It affects people of every age, gender and background, and for many it arrives without warning.

The numbers tell their own story. In research shared by Alopecia UK, 72% of people with alopecia said it impacted their emotional and mental wellbeing, and 64% were dissatisfied with the level of support they'd received from the NHS. Behind every one of those statistics is a person who deserves to feel confident, supported, and understood — not just tolerated.

That's what Alopecia Awareness Month is for: a shared moment each September to raise awareness, raise funds, and point people towards the support that exists.

Celebrating our community

Every wig we send out has a story behind it — a first day back at work, a wedding, a school run, or simply the everyday confidence of feeling like yourself again. This month, we want to celebrate those stories. How you can get involved

Alopecia UK's Raise and Shine campaign breaks down into two simple actions, and you don't need a grand plan to take part:

• Raise. Take on a challenge, host a bake sale, walk some miles, or shave your head for the cause. Every pound raised helps Alopecia UK continue its support, community and education work. You can set up a JustGiving page in minutes.
• Shine. Share a fact, tell a story, or simply talk about alopecia with the people around you. Small conversations chip away at stigma. If you post on social media, tag @alopeciauk and use #RaiseAndShine #AlopeciaAwarenessMonth #AlopeciaUK.
